UPCOMING DATES:

THE STORY

Since 2022, St. John’s has partnered with Kingdom Builders to establish Mi Roca Fuerte ("My Strong Rock") in Tecate, Mexico. What began as a church being built has grown into a lasting relationship; through 2026, our teams have returned to host community events and begin construction on a parsonage for the local pastor.

By building churches and homes directly within neighborhoods, we help remove the barrier of unreliable transportation—allowing families to walk to worship. This mission is rooted in the simple, faithful proclamation of the Gospel: that Christ, our firm foundation, meets His people exactly where they are.

Stories from the Field:

"I think my experience is a result of God working through me—through my hands and the knowledge I have of building with certain materials. It's about helping other people who are, I would guess, a little bit less fortunate than I am. And yes, it’s about making a home and providing a roof over a family so they can continue their path of sharing the word of God with the community around here, too." - Hector

"The Holy Spirit has been with us. Even beginning with a flat tire in our van—which I thought was kind of interesting—it was fixed quickly. And to see where we started with just the foundation, and then to see within a day how the work, the love, and the community have just been amazing; it is total, total glory to Jesus Christ for making this all possible. And then there was our excitement in the evening, when we’re so exhausted and want to just take a hot shower and go to bed, only to find that there’s no hot water. But you know, all those kinds of things just give us more gratitude for all the blessings that we enjoy back home. So, what an honor to serve on this project. Thanks for coordinating this." - Lupe

"Honestly, the experience was great. Even though this was a service project and not necessarily meant to be about 'fun,' I think we worked together so well that it became a joy. I really enjoyed the hands-on work—painting, helping with the panels, and carrying them for the build. But looking back on what we accomplished, I think it was about more than just construction; we started building a family. We were able to provide more than a structure—we gave them hope, a vision for the future, and a safe place to stay, develop, and grow.

This trip was good for me and for everyone involved. It served as a major reality check, showing me how much I truly have compared to how many people struggle without the basics. It has really grown my faith to realize that every time I’m wishing for some new material thing, there are others just fighting to meet their basic needs. For me, that realization was probably the most important part of the whole experience.

Beyond the work, it was great to meet new friends and see a new place. Since this was my first time in Mexico, I was struck by how beautiful it is. More than anything, I think we bonded as a community. We didn't hit any major setbacks or obstacles; we just had a job to do, and we worked toward it steadily as a team. I truly enjoyed this trip, and I would definitely go back." - Jonas, 8th grader
